Rankings

Greek Backgammon Federation uses three kinds of rankings :

(a) the Annual Master Points Ranking, which proclaims the winner of the cup of the season. Each season starts after the summer holidays and finishes before next year's summer holidays. The method of calculation is simple based on the length of a match, say n. For each won match a player is entitled n master points. Starting from season 2011-2012, the best eight out of ten monthly tournaments will count for each player.

Winner of the first season [2007-2008] was Giorgos Kleitsas.

Winner of the second season [2008-2009] was Kostas Chiotinis.

Winner of the third season [2009-2010] was Charis Christidis.

Winner of the fourth season [2010-2011] was Charis Christidis.

Winner of the fifth season [2011-2012] was Giorgos Avdis.

(b) The Cup ranking, which shows the qualified players for the Cup Final and the list of the so far points of the players trying to qualify.

Winner of the first season of Greek Cup [2011-2012] was Giorgos Avdis.

(c) the Elo Ranking, which is diachronic and is considered the most reliable measure of the strength of a player. The Elo System is based on a mathematical formula which takes into account the strength and the experience * of the two players, the length of the match and of course the result.

*The experience of a player is defined  as the sum of the lengths of his matches, independently of the result. A player's Elo is considered reliable if the experience of that player exceeds 400.
